我和Tom都是从security转到graphics的，所以对很多基本概念都不熟，早上让team leader给我们解释了下，结果还是一知半解。主要没搞明白的就是window server在屏幕上显示东西首先要有一个composition extent，这是和实际的屏幕物理分辨率一样，composition extent里面是UI extent，就是可以调分辨率的，UI extent里面是application extent，说白了用图来说明就是一个长方形里面套一个长方形。 team leader后来给我们两个文档，让我们看。于是我和Tom边看边在sametimes(IBM的一个聊天软件)上讨论。

Tom: Which doc are you looking at?

me: The design sketch which has a diagram of rectangles. only diagram of rectangles can make things clear.

Tom: ah, yes, I need rectangles

下午，在看了两篇文档和三个充满了长方形的图之后，我在sametimes充满成就感地和Tom说

me: I think I understand now. The rectangle of truth on page xx of xx doc explains

Tom: It's all about rectangles. that's where I'm going wrong in first place

me: ye, working in graphics is all about rectangles, 即使你在屏幕上显示一个圆形按钮，那也是一个长方形的按钮在中间画了个圆，然后把其他地方显示成背景色了 oh, what a suprise! my monitor is a rectangle...

 

前两天公司组织给癌症儿童捐款，然后在捐款的人中间抽奖，奖励一只玩具猴子，这时忽然得知Tom赢了，前台把猴子拿进来给Tom

 

me: so you won a rectangle?

Tom: lol yup. it's made of a lot of rectangles.

Tom: I look into its eyes... rectangles

Tom: Oh, it starts making sense.

Tom: The food I eat, rectangle

...

我笑得不行了，在公司影响不好，只能偷偷躲进厕所笑了5分钟，感觉终于控制住了，回来给Tom发

me: Ok, now be cool, be rectangle.

这次轮到Tom忍不住了，于是我俩此起彼伏，笑了10分钟

 

...又笑了5分钟

me: I tried not to think of rectangles but Jesus everything on my table is rectangle, my monitor, my laptop and my keyboard

这时我看到了早上去公司吃牛奶泡玉米片的碗，吃完了懒得送回厨房

me: wait a minute. I'm so happy to see the bowl on my desk, it looks like... a circle?

Tom看我还笑个不停

Tom: Just concentrate on the bowl
